👻Spooky Short Story Review👻
Her
by Danielle Rose

Kemper Academy is over a hundred years old, but it has only recently reopened after a series of murders and stories of hauntings shut it down. Avlynn, a new student, refuses to let the rumors scare her, chalking them up to a bit of friendly freshman hazing. But when night falls and screams draw her from her room, she finds the truth is much more horrifying than any ghost story.

My Review...

What a great, spooky tale! Right from the start I got sucked in with Avlynn's story!

I loved the ghost story over a campfire introduction and the way it quickly turns from light-hearted fun to horror! The perfect book if you're looking for something spooky & quick! (Thinking about opening a full-fledged horror novel? Check this out first!) I highly recommend you dive into this one to get you in the Halloween, spooky-kind-of-mood!

Be prepared to want more of this wonderfully written horror story!

Waiting On Wednesday
Year One
by Nora Roberts

'Waiting on Wednesday' is a weekly event hosted at Breaking the Spine, it spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating. Check them out for links to more awesome blogs!

Release Date: Dec 5th, 2017
It began on New Year’s Eve.

The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed—and more than half of the world’s population was decimated.

Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magic rose up in its place. Some of it is good, like the witchcraft worked by Lana Bingham, practicing in the loft apartment she shares with her lover, Max. Some of it is unimaginably evil, and it can lurk anywhere, around a corner, in fetid tunnels beneath the river—or in the ones you know and love the most.

As word spreads that neither the immune nor the gifted are safe from the authorities who patrol the ravaged streets, and with nothing left to count on but each other, Lana and Max make their way out of a wrecked New York City. At the same time, other travelers are heading west too, into a new frontier. Chuck, a tech genius trying to hack his way through a world gone offline. Arlys, a journalist who has lost her audience but uses pen and paper to record the truth. Fred, her young colleague, possessed of burgeoning abilities and an optimism that seems out of place in this bleak landscape. And Rachel and Jonah, a resourceful doctor and a paramedic who fend off despair with their determination to keep a young mother and three infants in their care alive.

In a world of survivors where every stranger encountered could be either a savage or a savior, none of them knows exactly where they are heading, or why. But a purpose awaits them that will shape their lives and the lives of all those who remain.

The end has come. The beginning comes next.
At the risk of sounding like a fangirl....oh WTH, OMG OMG OMG!!! I just adore Nora Roberts and loved her Sign of Seven trilogy! My only complaint is, I wish it came out this month because I think October is the perfect time of year to read this!

What I'm Reading

Hi y'all! I know it's been a loonnnnggg time since a post. Sometimes life gets in the way and so many things happened at once, I just needed a break...a time to clear my head. I got to a point I couldn't even concentrate on a book and would set it down and not come back to it.

I'm very happy to say that I'm once again at a place that I can come back to the bookish world again! I missed you guys!! I think it may take some time until I'm fully back, my posts may be a little more spaced out but I plan on gradually coming back and at my own speed.

That being said, it's getting close to Halloween and I wanted to pick out a spooky read to cozy up to. I've chosen Her by Danielle Rose. I've already read the first few pages, and it's so spooky! 👻

Are you reading anything scary for Halloween? Let me know in the comments!

They are the infamous lords, unrepentant rogues whose bad behavior makes for good gossip among the ton. But every scoundrel has his secrets, and it takes a special touch to reveal the true hearts behind their devilish disguises.

Known as a brazen philanderer, Hayden Milton, Earl of Westfield, is almost done in by a vengeful mistress who aims a gun at a rather essential part of his anatomy—but ends up wounding his thigh instead. Recuperating in his London town house, Hayden is confronted by his new medical attendant. Sophia Camden intrigues him, for behind her starched uniform is an enticing beauty better suited for bedding than dispensing salves and changing bandages.

Unshaken by his arrogance, not to mention impropriety, Sophia offers Hayden a dare: allow her ten days to prove her competency. If she resigns in exasperation like her two predecessors, she will be beholden to this wicked seducer. As a battle of wills begins, Sophia finds herself distracted by the Earl's muscular physique . . . and discovers that the man within longs only for a second chance to love.
The cover drew me in, this looks like the perfect winter romance!
